Update September 2008 Event
Exactly twenty years have passed from the time the first
issue of RETHINKING MARXISM
was launched. In the course of these twenty years our journal has grown
to become a prominent platform for new development in Marxist theory. RM
was the result of the sheer dedication, commitment, and will of a large
and changing group of AESA members.
Twenty years on, we still find ourselves in a harsh political and
social environment but we are still alive as a left alternative
collective, and AESA and RM have taken their place among a growing group of
dissenters criticizing, imagining, and creating alternatives to capitalist
hegemony. An endeavor that started
chiefly among economists now counts among its readers and contributors people
from across the different disciplines, as well as activists and artists. The
journal has thrived!
To mark the 20th anniversary of RM, we are inviting all of you to a two-day celebration at its birth place, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, on the 19th and 20th of September 2008.
This event will be “AESA-only”. It is our opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments and think about the future of our collective project in an intimate setting. We look forward to reconnecting with old friends and reinvigorating our community. It has been far too long since we met together as a group, and we hope you will be there to participate with us.
The first day of the event will consist of workshops for AESA members to
discuss our current work. The second day will be dedicated to discussions of
the past, present and the future of our journal and AESA. The celebration will
culminate on Saturday evening with a dinner and party at the Lord Jeffery Inn
in Amherst.
We will post more information about the logistics (including a call for workshop participants and hotel information) for this event soon but, for now, please mark these dates in your calendar for this 20th Anniversary celebration. We look forward to seeing you all in Amherst this coming September.
